Title: The Chaos Queen

Genre: Fantasy
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The final book is here!
What a way to end the trilogy! This review contains spoilers for the previous two books as well as this one, so please be mindful!

Picking up where Book #2 left off, Everly has finally been reunited with her brother, Julien, in Alvyria, but it is not the happy reunion she expected as she gets caught in a standoff between Julien and her closest ally, Selene. After things calm, we learn what happened to Julien when he and Everly where transported to an unknown world, and just how dissimilar the twins truly are to each other. Everly is practical and only wants the basic necessities in life, Julien is always moving on to the next scheme to try and get rich quick, even if it doesn't go to plan. From their past experiences and how they ended up in Alvyria due to Julien's over reaching ambition, it seems he only cares about power and money, doesn't that sound like someone else we know?

These new friendships over the course of the books have helped shape Everly into a strong, independent character who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it. Despite Tarin and Selene's binding to Aldrin, they do everything they can to ensure Everly's safety and privacy while her weaving abilities progressed, even taking the brunt of Aldrin's ire when things don't go his way.

Aldrin's mask has dropped in this Volume of the series and he has quickly shifted from a caring and concerned individual in Everly's life, to someone who's brimming with a superiority complex and condescension. Often ego can be blinding and a big weakness, especially for someone like Aldrin, who seems to underestimate those around him and what they're capable of doing.

In comparison, we see the opposite happen with Ash. He initially seemed brusque and standoff-ish with Everly, but as we keep reading he softens and cares for Everly when she's vulnerable, with a spicy tension rising between the two. How I do love a 'frenemies-to-lovers' trope!

The mention of a prophecy involving twins seemed a bit of a late addition as we neared the climax of the book, it could have maybe been mentioned earlier in the book or in a previous volume. The pace and action pick up as everything starts to come to a head. The spicy scenes were *chefs kiss*, not too much that it completely overshadowed the main storyline but enough that it gave Everly and Ash's relationship more substance than what she experienced with Aldrin. I would have liked to have had more in regards to Aldrin's defeat but as this story is kind of written from the POV of Everly, it would have been difficult to incorporate more.

Overall, I enjoyed the action packed ending and I would love to read more stories from the same world and maybe involving secondary characters. Aubrey Winters tied up all the threads of this story beautifully, but still leaves room to expand with other books. A love story for the cheeky Tristan? Or maybe more about Selene and Tarin? These could help answer secondary questions like as Ash stopped aging, will Everly? What was Julien's fate when he landed back in Lagdon? There's plenty to build on but this series wrapped up in a way that felt like the author was staying true to the characters through their actions. I would highly recommend this series if you are a fantasy & romance lover. The twists and turns keep you engrossed and ready for more. I am extremely grateful that I was able to read this as part of the ARC group.
